Ballet

Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century. Under the influence of Italian aristocrat and Queen of France, Catherine de’ Medici, ballet later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It is practiced, taught, and performed around the world, and has foundational techniques that are used in many other dance genres.

Contemporary

Contemporary is a dance style influenced from modern dance, which originated in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. It emerged as a rebellion and alternative to classical ballet, Vaudeville dance, high-kick and skirt dancing. It focused on freedom of movement and natural, emotional expression.

Tap

Tap is a form of dance that uses the sound of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. The sound is made by shoes that have a metal "tap" on the heel and toe, and emphasis is placed on musicality and syncopation. Tap dance has its roots in the fusion of several ethnic percussive dances, including African tribal dances and Irish jigs.

Hip Hop

Hip-hop dance is a dynamic, high energy dance style performed to the beats and rhythm of hip-hop music. It can include a wide variety of styles like breaking, popping, and locking. It also emphasizes freestyling and improvisational movement.
